What is Homeopathy

History of Homeopathy

It was founded by a German Physician Dr. Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843). In 1790 while translating medical text from English to German he came across an article about Cinchona being used for the treatment of malaria due to its astringent property. He, also being a chemist, was not convinced of this theory and started taking regular doses of cinchona bark (quinine). He noticed this produced symptoms of intermittent fever like malaria. The symptoms recurred each time he took a dose of cinchona and would disappear on stopping it.This made him wonder if cinchona was used in the treatment of malaria as it was capable of producing similar symptoms in a healthy person.This discovery led to an idea which he published in 1796 as Essay on a New Principle for Ascertaining the Curative Power of Drugs. He experimented with many other substances on himself and other healthy individuals and recorded all the symptoms meticulously. This led to the foundation of homeopathy.
